Quantum DXi6500 Wins SME Initiative IT Innovation Prize 2010

Named Best IT Innovation of the Year for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Storage/Networks Category

Munich, March 11, 2010 – Quantum Corp. (NYSE:QTM), the leading global specialist in backup, recovery and archive, today announced Quantum’s DXi6500 product family has been awarded the IT Innovation Prize 2010 of the Initiative Mittelstand (SME Initiative) at the CeBIT tradeshow in the Storage/Networks category – from among 2,000 entries in 35 categories. The DXi6500 family of NAS backup and deduplication solutions, specifically developed for use in midrange environments, was recognized by the jury of 80 scientists, industry experts and trade journalists for its added value, innovative character and suitability for small and medium-sized companies.

The Quantum DXi6500 family offers small and medium-sized enterprises simple, powerful and cost-effective backup-to-disk solutions based on Quantum’s deduplication and replication functionality. The five preconfigured models incorporate solid-state disk (SDD) technology and are characterized by low implementation costs. They are designed to be easily implemented in existing environments by the end user or by a reseller and scaled without the need to call in technical support. In addition, all the licenses for software features – including Quantum esXpress for data backup and deduplication in VMware environments – are already included with the product. As a result, the DXi6500 family offers SMEs ease of use and superior value.

The advanced deduplication and replication technology in the DXi6500 family reduces both the amount of disk required for backup and the bandwidth needed for replication by up to 90 percent or more. Implementing a disaster recovery solution thus becomes a feasible and cost-efficient option for SMEs. The DXi6500 family includes support for Symantec's OpenStorage (OST) API with both NetBackup and Backup Exec 2010, enabling centralized management of backup, restore, replication, and tape creation. Direct tape creation that bypasses the media server for higher performance is supported on NetBackup 6.5.4 and higher with the DXi6540 and DXi6550.

Richard Zirkel, Area Sales Director Central Europe at Quantum, accepted the prize at the CeBIT awards ceremony. “We are delighted at the jury’s decision. The prize proves that our strategy of developing dedicated solutions for SMEs is spot on. The DXi6500 product family makes deduplication and replication both affordable and easy to implement for SMEs.”
