Molinare Selects DVS and Quantum to Address Storage Workflow Demands of HD and 3D Post Production Projects

Leading London-Based Post House Achieves Modern, Data-Centric Workflow and Maximum Data Protection for Security and Archive Purposes

HANNOVER, GERMANY and SAN JOSE, CA, Jul 21, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Molinare, the largest, privately owned post production company in the United Kingdom, has selected high-performance hardware and software from DVS and Quantum (NYSE: QTM). With tremendous rich media data growth resulting from HD and 3D projects, the facility recently opted for a combination of a DVS-SAN, DVS's CLIPSTER(R), SpycerBox and Quantum's StorNext(R) data management software to move massive image files between its sites in London, Mumbai and Chennai, India. Molinare's previous storage architecture was insufficient to satisfy the demands of today's digital workflow. Thanks to the combined solution from DVS and Quantum, Molinare now benefits from an enormous increase in storage and a high-speed, file-based workflow which enables users around the world to manage, share, protect and archive its large media files.

Molinare significantly increased its original 8 TB of storage capacity. The DVS-SAN with its 150 TB functions as the key component in the high data rate, shared storage solution: It is optimized for post production workflows and works independently of third-party components. Molinare's editors can now work in the highest possible resolution with the ability to share material across continents. DVS's SpycerBox provides an additional 48 TB of storage capacity and assists Molinare in creating a secure and dedicated backup.

DVS's award-winning DI workstation CLIPSTER(R) allows real-time playback of several RAW files like RED(R), ARRI, Phantom and SI-2K. Its ability to handle multiple tasks supports Molinare in new workflows, enabling the facility to take in any type of media, as well as edit, grade and conform the material. Molinare has even established a dedicated CLIPSTER(R) suite which enjoys exceptional popularity with clients working on Digital Cinema Packages.

Quantum's StorNext(R) Storage Manager software was seamlessly integrated with the DVS equipment. It enables shared file access and intelligent archiving, providing data protection, a repository for completed work and deep storage for other material. The features in StorNext facilitate Molinare's real-time 4K workflows and manage the resulting content across tiers of storage.

Scott Holmgren, Technical Director at Molinare: "With our increasing demand for bandwidth for both HD and 3D work, DVS and Quantum technology proves to be the ideal choice. The DVS-SAN has an excellent reputation in the industry and Quantum's ability to move media at high speeds over fibre complements it perfectly. CLIPSTER(R) is the Swiss army knife of video tools and essential to our workflow: we have achieved tremendous time savings, and our editors can work in real-time from high-resolution sources."

Ewan Johnston, Software Sales Director EMEA at Quantum: "With both DVS and Quantum equipment, Molinare saw its storage capacity rise from around 8 TB to nearly 200 TB almost overnight. The installation was completed within just one month of the go-ahead from Molinare, which could only be achieved because of our close working relationship with DVS and our understanding of the digital workflow environment."

Oliver Gappa, Sales and Marketing Director at DVS: "Quantum and DVS have a long-standing relationship -- we have worked together on many installations and our hardware and software solutions work in tandem. The new infrastructure at Molinare guarantees a seamless workflow and has fully equipped the facility with all the tools it needs to stay ahead of the field."
